On March 5th, 15 years ago, local comedian Chantal Harris drove herself into rehab with a double-shot Bloody Mary in hand, ready to come clean. Actually, it might’ve been a triple-shot - who’s counting?
In her one-woman show ADHD, the Bottle and Me, Harris opens up about her journey through alcohol addiction and the connection to her ADHD awakening. A fresh face on the Gqeberha comedy scene, Harris brings an irreverent sense of humour and an optimistic outlook as she reflects on the countless bad decisions and wrong turns in her life - and fervently hopes that comedy isn’t just another mistake!
Join her on a journey of self-discovery and recovery. “It’ll be a little funny, maybe a little sad, but hopefully useful to many,” Harris says.
With direction from multi-award-winning actor, playwright, comedian, and director Sophie Joans, whose love for the absurd and her vast experience both on and off the stage adds extra layers of comedy to this deeply personal story.
“Chantal’s writing is witty and endearing, filled with delightful twists in a powerful narrative. Her performance is hilarious. I’m honoured to be a part of this project,” says Joans.
Joining her on stage for a little light entertainment will be local musicians Lethabo Makuruetsa and Mariloe Booysen, and her partner in comedy, Nolwazi Nkwandla. Hannah Bezuidenhout will be acting as host to keep everyone on track.
There will be singing and there will be laughter! Because he who laughs, lasts.
