This year, The Soil returns to Gqeberha, a place they proudly call home, for a once-off concert at the Mandela Bay Arts Festival (MBAF). The show promises to be a heartfelt celebration of their 18-year journey, filled with music, nostalgia, and a renewed vision for the future.
The crowd warms up with comedy from Nkosinathi Maki before The Soil takes audiences on a soul-stirring trip down memory lane, revisiting the timeless melodies that have defined their sound and etched their music into the hearts of millions. To elevate the experience, they’ll be joined by a live band—adding fresh depth and dynamic instrumentation to their signature sound. These talented musicians will bring new life to fan-favorite tracks and showcase songs from their album Reimagined that have already been hailed as future classics. The album won a prestigious South African Music Award (SAMA) late last year.
As a homecoming performance, this show is not just about the music—it’s about honoring the community that has nurtured us and inspired our journey. Their MBAF 2025 concert will be a night of joy, unity, and celebration; The Soil like you’ve never seen or heard before—a reimagined version of their legacy, grounded in love and gratitude for the people of Nelson Mandela Bay.

The Soil has headlined prestigious events, such as WOMAD festivals in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Chile, and iconic venues like the Apollo Theatre in the USA.
Their accolades include a Channel O Award, a South African Music Award, and an international win at Russia’s White Nights of St. Petersburg. They’ve also been regular headliners for the Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts and performed at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival and Uganda’s Bayimba Festival.

Nkosinathi Maki
Nkosinathi Maki, the founder of the Mandela Bay Comedy Festival, has always had a niche for entertaining crowds. From a young age, his way around words brought much laughter. He later made a career out of his gift and is now a renowned South African stand-up comedian, MC, and host. He reaped the rewards of his passionate work of entertainment with an award for Best Solo Show at The National Arts Festival in 2019 for his exceptional performance.
In 2022, he was the winner of the Jive Funny Festival Championship. Furthermore, he was nominated twice for the Savanna Comics Choice Awards in 2023.
