Ghoemba Vibes is a vibrant and energetic jazz performance that embodies the rich cultural rhythm of South Africa’s music. This year, they will showcase their original traditional music at the Mandela Bay Arts Festival, joined by the Vusa Band, one of the oldest and most established bands in the Eastern Cape with over 27 years of performance history. Denzil Africa will be singing and playing piano and their performances features a mix of original compositions and covers, uniquely arranged by the band.

 

The lineup includes professional musicians on piano, bass, guitar, drums, saxophone, trumpet, and percussion/horn instruments. Their music is not only a celebration of cultural diversity but also a testament to the enduring spirit of the local community. The band’s ability to blend different cultural influences into their music makes their performances both captivating and memorable.

About the Artists

Denzil Africa and the Vusa Band, is one of the Eastern Cape’s premier jazz, cover, and function bands based in Gqeberha. Their extensive repertoire includes background jazz, African jazz, popular jazz instrumentals, and disco and dance music hits, performed in English, Afrikaans, and isiXhosa. The Vusa Band has graced numerous major festivals across South Africa, including the National Arts Festival, All Star Jazz Festival and the Somerset East Biltong Festival, sharing stages with artists like Mafikizolo, Dr. Victor, and Jennifer Jones. 

 

They’ve also backed South African jazz icons including Robbie Jansen, Winston Mankunku and Jimmy Dludlu. Lead vocalist Denzil Africa has performed with national and international icons like Judith Sepuma, Donald Harrison, Kenny and Chante Lattimore, Kurt Darren and many more. He has released two successful albums, Out of Africa (2001) and Woman (2011), and has received numerous accolades, including the Cape Town regional winner of Shell Road to Fame 1988 and the Algoa FM Talent Search 2001 winner for Best Eastern Cape Song.
