About the Artists
Zoliswa Mavela is an Afro-soul artist who continues to inspire and heal audiences with her unique musical style. Raised in New Brighton, she faced early challenges but persevered, finding solace and purpose in music. After relocating to Adelaide in the Eastern Cape, Mavela honed her musical talents, participating in various competitions and joining choirs. Her passion for music led her to study music theory and join the prestigious Joy of Africa choir in Gqeberha.
Following her high school graduation, Mavela embarked on a professional music career, starting with a position at Artscape Theatre in Cape Town. She later returned to Gqeberha to work as a backing vocalist for the late Stompie Mavi and co-founded Kiki & amp; Nosisi Entertainment. Mavela's career has been marked by collaborations with renowned artists such as Sbongile Khumalo, Nomhle Nkonyeni, Bhut Kiyani, and the late Gloria Bosman and Abigal Khubeka. She has also toured internationally with the late Victor Ntoni.
Today, Mavela continues to captivate audiences with her soulful voice, blending Afro-soul, gospel, and opera. Her music serves as a source of healing and inspiration for both herself and her listeners. The former New Brighton resident has taken on various roles in the industry while exploring various parts of South Africa while finding her unique voice which is loved by all that experience her talents.
As a young girl, Mavela moved to Adelaide in the Eastern Cape where she faced various tumultuous events including being tasked with numerous chores while her peers focused on their studies. Returning to Gqeberha Mavela attended Arthur Nyobho Primary where her talent for singing was discovered before honing in on her musical skills at Johnson Marwanqa Primary where she also took on the role of a lead singer during assemblies.
Her passion for music led her to participate in the Shell Road to Fame competition, where she composed a song on stage, showcasing her talent and determination at a young age. Mavela continued to pursue her musical aspirations studying music theory and joining the choir at Cowan High School where her talent caught the attention of Makhaya Mjana which led to her being recruited into the renowned Joy of Africa choir in Gqeberha.
