About the Artists
Mzwabantu Kondile, better known as Mzee Sax, is a versatile South African jazz musician. His musical journey began in 2001 as a church organist, laying the foundation for his future career. He honed his skills by joining the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University Jazz Ensemble in 2007 and later forming the Uitenhage Oldies band. Kondile's versatility is evident in his collaborations with various ensembles, including Jazzabout and The Conquerors Reggae Roots Band. In 2024, he reached new heights by joining the South African National Jazz Orchestra (SANJO) under the leadership of world renowned McCoy Mrubata and performing at the prestigious 50th edition of the National Arts Festival in 2024.
As Mzee Sax & Friends, Kondile has captivated audiences at festivals such as the Street Music Festival. His music seamlessly blends African styles with soul and spiritual elements, creating a unique and captivating sound as seen in his latest jazz single, "Ubomi Bentaka".
