Emnandi iYaphindwa: Music & Poetry is an annual event for hip hop and poetry enthusiasts in the Nelson Mandela Bay Area that will be part of the Mandela Bay Arts Festival in 2025. The event features local hip hop performances by emerging artists and culturally conscious poetry sessions by top poets from the Eastern Cape.

 

Afro Grooves will be joining Tika, offering a unique take on hip hop with a more jazzy, live band feel. The host of the event will also provide insights into the origins and evolution of hip hop, educating the audience about its various elements beyond just rapping, including poetry.

About the Artists

Sicelo Tika is a talented musician from Joe Slovo, Gqeberha, who has made a significant impact on the local music scene. After studying music, Tika launched his first solo project, Less Yadda Yadda in 2014, which gained national attention and was featured on Metro FM, among others.

 

As a solo artist, Tika has collaborated with various musicians over the years, blending poetry and rap to address social issues with a touch of humour. His unique take on hip hop incorporates a more jazzy, live band feel, setting him apart from traditional hip hop artists. Tika’s four-member band brings a dynamic and engaging performance, educating audiences about the different elements of hip hop beyond just rapping. They emphasize the importance of poetry in their music, creating a rich and diverse listening experience with performances not only entertaining but providing insight into the origins and evolution of hip hop.
